Security

iThemes Security (formerly Better WP Security)

You can find the free version of this plugin in the WordPress Plugin Repository. Use the one click configuration, and you’ll have a good start on making your site more secure. Spend a little time going through the recommendations, and you’ll greatly increase the security on your site.

There is also a premium version of this plugin that we will be testing soon.

Text Editors

If you are editing CSS or PHP, you need to use a text editor NOT a word processor.

Our two favorite free Text Editors are Tincta for Mac and Notepad ++ for PC. Both are easy to use and will display proper markup for CSS, HTML, and PHP.

Themes

There are several WordPress themes that we use and recommend for websites. One of our current favorites is Divi by Elegant Themes. This premium theme is very flexible and powerful. Stay tuned for a free series of posts and tutorials for the Divi theme.
